PDB- Palm Database File. Can hold several different e-book formats targeting Palm-enabled devices, commonly used forPalmDOC(AportisDoc) e-books andeReaderformats as well and many others.

PRC- Palm Resource File. Often holds a Mobipocket eBook but occasionally holds an eReader or AportisDoc eBook.

PNPd-? format used by theeReaderprogram. This is a popular format (Also known asPML Palm Markup Language).

TPZ- Topaz file extension used on Amazon Kindle. Topaz is a collection of glyphs arrange on pages, along with an unproofed OCR text version. An Amazon proprietary format, used to make older books available quickly, since conversion is essentially automatic from scans of the pages of a book, but it reflows very well.


DjVu( ) - - , . , .DJVU- format by Lizardtech that is more and more widely used for scientific publications. Its main characteristics is that the compress ratio is about 10x better than in .pdf format at the same quality. Nothing beats it at the moment for b&w text and pictures.

RTF(Rich Text Format) - . - .RTF- Rich Text Format is a document interchange format available supported by some e-book readers, and also by many Word processing applications including MS Word and OpenOffice. It is the preferred format for many users who create their own content for the Sony Reader.

DOC(DOCX)- Microsoft Office. , . EPUB.

ODT- This is an open standard, document format used in, Star Office and many other word processors.

IMP eBookwise is an intermediate file format used to store eBook content for several eBook Readers, most notably theeBookwise-1150and theREB 1200.( 2010, ) IMP- an eBook format used by eBook Technologies ETI-1 (REB 1200/Softbook Reader) or ETI-2 (EBookwise-1150/Gemstar 1150). TheTomeRaidere-book format is a proprietary format. There are versions ofTomeRaiderfor Windows, Windows Mobile (aka Pocket PC), Palm, Symbian and iPhone. Several Wikipedias are available asTomeRaider fileswith all articles unabridged, some even with nearly all images. Capabilities of the TomeRaider3 e-book reader vary considerably per platform: the Windows and Windows Mobile editions support fullHTMLandCSS. The Palm edition supports limited HTML (e.g., no tables, no fonts), and CSS support is missing. For Symbian there is only the older TomeRaider2 format, which does not render images or offer category search facilities. Despite these differences any TomeRaider e-book can be browsed on all supported platforms. The Tomeraider website[29]claims to have over 4000 e-books available, including free versions of theInternet Movie Databaseand Wikipedia.TR- Tome Raider file. Tome Raider is an eBook format that features support for very large books such as reference books, encyclopedias, and dictionaries. Their latest format is called TR3.

Open XML Paper Specification(also referred to asOpenXPS) is an openspecificationfor apage description languageand a fixed-document format.Microsoftdeveloped it as the XML Paper Specification (XPS). In June 2009,Ecma Internationaladopted it as international standardECMA-388.[30]

The format is intentionally restricted to sequences of: Glyphs (a fixed run of text), Paths (a geometry that can be filled, or stroked, by a brush), and Brushes (a description of a shaped brush used to in rendering paths).

This reduces the possibility of inadvertent introduction of malicious content and simplifies the implementation of compatible renderers.

XML- general purpose markup language for exchange of data. In the context of eBooks it is generally confined toXHTMLandRSSfeeds although some other formats have been defined.
